for parts of Southeast Coast Forecast District.

GIANT HAIL POSSIBLE IN STORMS APPROACHING BRISBANE FROM THE SOUTH

Weather Situation A humid and unstable airmass is in place over the southeast of the state and a southeasterly wind change is expected to reach the area later in the afternoon. Severe thunderstorms have triggered about the NSW border and are expected to continue throughout the afternoon, expanding to other parts of the southeast including Brisbane. LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES, DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: Southeast Coast VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Cleveland, Jimboomba, Springbrook, Mount Tamborine and Beenleigh. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations which may be affected include, Brisbane, Caboolture, Coolangatta, and Ipswich. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. 6 CM HAIL WAS OBSERVED AT CALOUNDRA AT 1:55 PM Cancellation for the following areas: Darling Downs and Granite Belt

Emergency services advise people to: * If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust. * Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines if it s safe to do so. * Stay away from windows if there is giant hail. * Park your car undercover away from trees. * Close doors and windows. * Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks. * Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out. * Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost. * Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous. * Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area. * Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:25 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
