Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rainfall, Damaging Winds And Large Hailstones for parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts. Issued at 8:54 pm Wednesday, 8 January 2025. Severe thunderstorms continue over the far south east of the State this evening. Weather Situation An upper feature in combination with a surface trough is producing severe thunderstorms over far southeastern parts of the state this afternoon. This activity is expected to continue through the early evening. HEAVY RAINFALL, DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas: Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations which may be affected include Brisbane, Ipswich, Jimboomba and Mount Tamborine. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Locations which may be affected include Roma, Theodore, Moura and Chinchilla. 72 mm was recorded at Queen Mary Falls in the hour to 6:58 pm 57 mm was recorded at Maroon Dam HW Alert in the hour to 7:38 pm 53 mm was recorded at Carrs Lookout in the 30 minutes to 6:39 pm 47 mm was recorded at Washpool Alert in the 30 minutes to 8:22 pm 47 mm was recorded at Maroon Dam Inflow in the 30 minutes to 7:10 pm 44 mm was recorded at White Swamp in the 30 minutes to 6:54 pm 3 cm hail reported in the St George area at approx 5:00 pm 2 cm hail reported in the Roma area at approx 4:30 pm. Emergency services advise people to: * Park your car undercover away from trees. * Close doors and windows. * Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks. * Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out. * Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost. * Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous. * Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area. * Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed. The next warning is due to be issued by 11:55 pm Wednesday.
