Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for Giant Hailstones, Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Ipswich, Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City, Moreton Bay and South Burnett Council Areas.

GIANT HAIL IN A VERY DANGEROUS STORM NEAR BOONAH MOVING TO THE NORTH

GIANT HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas: Ipswich, Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, South Burnett, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:45 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near the area between Boonah and Beaudesert. This thunderstorm is moving towards the north. It is forecast to affect Ipswich, Sunnybank Hills, Wacol and Archerfield by 5:45 pm. Other severe thunderstorms likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near the area west of Toogoolawah. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Kilcoy, the area west of Kilcoy, Moore and Blackbutt by 5:15 pm and Mount Kilcoy, Linville, Conondale and the area west of Conondale by 5:45 pm.

Emergency services advise people to: * If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust. * Stay away from windows if there is giant hail. * Park your car undercover away from trees. * Close doors and windows. * Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks. * Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out. * Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost. * Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous. * Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area. * Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:55 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
