IDQ21035 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in Redland City, Noosa and parts of Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Council Areas. Issued at 2:31 pm Tuesday, 7 November 2017. Weather Situation: The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:35 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area west of Noosa Heads, the area northwest of Noosa Heads, Pomona, Boreen Point, Lake Cootharaba and Kin Kin. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast to southeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Noosa Heads, waters off Noosa Heads, the area north of Noosa Heads and Lake Cooloola by 3:05 pm. Other severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Strathpine, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert, Sandgate, Brighton, Lake Samsonvale, Kallangur and Bundamba Lagoon. They are forecast to affect Beaudesert, Manly, Wynnum, southern waters of Moreton Bay, Brisbane Airport and Nudgee by 3:05 pm and Ipswich, Logan City, Cleveland, Ormiston, Dunwich and Peel Island by 3:35 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. 2-3cm hail reported near Beaudesert 3-4cm hail reported at Kandanga 2cm reported near Northlakes Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 3:35 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
