Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES

For people in Southeast Coast and parts of Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.

Weather Situation: Severe thunderstorms developing across the eastern interior.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Locations which may be affected include Brisbane, Maroochydore, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Biloela and Caboolture.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds over the next several hours in parts of the Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West and Central West districts. Locations which may be affected include Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Kamilaroi Station, Selwyn and Mckinlay.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Maranoa and Warrego district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

91 km/h wind gust was recorded at Trepell around 1pm.

83km/h wind gust was reported at Gatton at 2:10pm

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:50 pm.

If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe), a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
