Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for Destructive Winds, Heavy Rainfall and Large Hailstones |
IDQ20038 Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in parts of the Somerset, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Council Areas. Issued at 10:25 am Tuesday, 14 March 2017. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 10:25 am, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near southern Lake Wivenhoe. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Mount Nebo, Highvale, Samford and the D'Aguilar Ranges by 10:55 am and Brisbane CBD, Strathpine, Kallangur and Narangba by 11:25 am. Destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Emergency services have reported that this storm has removed the roof from a house at Goombungee. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 11:25 am. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Southeast Coast district. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
