Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for INTENSE RAINFALL, DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES

For people in Logan, Redland City, Brisbane City and parts of Ipswich, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:55 am, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Lake Manchester, Upper Brookfield and Wacol. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Brisbane CBD, Aspley and Albany Creek by 7:25 am and Cleveland, Sandgate and Brighton by 7:55 am. Other severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Palmwoods, Nambour, Tamborine, Comboyuro Point and Beerwah. They are forecast to affect Maroochydore, Beenleigh, Logan City and Caloundra by 7:25 am and South Stradbroke Island, Russell Island and Macleay Island by 7:55 am. Intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. Cooyar (near Nanango) recorded 44mm in 30 minutes to 4:45am Maroon Dam recorded 39mm in 15 minutes to 3:15am. Woodford recorded 66mm in 30 minutes to 3am. Giant hail around 5 to 6cm was recorded just west of Inglewood around 12:10am. Giant hail around 5cm was recorded at Windera around 7:30 - 8pm. A 93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Dalby Airport.at 7:15 pm.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 8:00 am.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
