Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and parts of Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Southern Downs, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:30 am, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Redcliffe, Jimna, Cunninghams Gap, Inglewood and Helidon. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Laidley, Gatton and Conondale by 6:00 am and Boonah, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert and Montville by 6:30 am. Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely. Cooyar (near Nanango) recorded 44mm in 30 minutes to 4:45am Maroon Dam recorded 39mm in 15 minutes to 3:15am. Woodford recorded 66mm in 30 minutes to 3am. Giant hail around 5 to 6cm was recorded just west of Inglewood around 12:10am. Giant hail around 5cm was recorded at Windera around 7:30 - 8pm. A 93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Dalby Airport.at 7:15 pm.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 6:35 am.
