Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Channel Country, Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts. Issued at 11:09 am Monday, 22 March 2021. HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely to develop over the Channel Country in the afternoon and evening. The rain areas will extend eastwards to the Maranoa & Warrego, the Central Highlands areas and Darling Downs & Granite Belts in the evening and overnight. Six-hourly rainfall totals 50-70 mm are likely in areas with locally heavier falls possible with thunderstorms. A Flood Watch is current for southern parts of Western and Central Queensland and the Darling Downs. HEAVY RAINFALL leading to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to develop about the eastern Darling Downs & Granite Belts, and the Southeast Coast districts tonight and on Tuesday morning. The situation is likely to pose a SERIOUS RISK to already affected and flooded areas. In some areas, the situation may become LIFE_THREATENING. Six-hourly rainfall totals in excess of 100-150 mm are likely with locally heavier falls possible due to thunderstorms. Locations which may be affected include Warwick, Gold Coast, Thargomindah, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Dalby, Maroochydore, Roma, Charleville, Birdsville, Emerald, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Coolangatta and Ipswich. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Monday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
