Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS For people in Southeast Coast and parts of Peninsula, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts. Issued at 6:00 pm Wednesday, 6 January 2021. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding and damaging winds over the next several hours in the Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Locations which may be affected include Toowoomba, Brisbane, Kingaroy, Ipswich, Lowood and Nanango. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central West district. Locations which may be affected include Barcaldine, Blackall, Evesham Station, Aramac, Muttaburra and Corfield. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district. Locations which may be affected include Port Douglas, Mossman, Daintree Village, and Oak Beach and Julatten. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Maranoa and Warrego district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. Beaudesert recorded 83mm in 1 hour to 5:30pm Woodlands Road (W of Laidley) recorded 57mm in 1 hour to 5:30pm Highfields (N of Toowoomba) recorded 68mm in 1 hour to 5pm Biddenham (W of Augathella) recorded 41mm in 30 minutes to 3:15pm. Mount Pisgah (SW of Emerald) recorded 46mm in 30 minutes to 3:45mm Lumeah (S of Beaudesert) recorded 48mm in 30 minutes to 4:30pm Winton recorded a 51 knot wind gust at 4:38pm Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
