Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Ipswich, Redland City, Brisbane City and parts of Gympie, Logan, Somerset, South Burnett, Toowoomba, Lockyer Valley, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Moreton Bay Council Areas. Issued at 3:04 pm Saturday, 31 October 2020. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:00 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near South Stradbroke Island, Jacobs Well, the area north of Kilkivan and Southport. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect the area northwest of Gympie, the area north of Gympie and Mount Kanighan by 3:30 pm and Gympie, the area east of Gympie and the area northeast of Gympie by 4:00 pm. Other severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Brisbane CBD, the area southwest of Esk, the area south of Esk, Kandanga, Lake Manchester, Moore and Nanango. They are forecast to affect Logan City, Cleveland and Kilcoy by 3:30 pm and Ipswich, Maroochydore and Caboolture by 4:00 pm. Damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely. *** 13cm HAIL REPORTED AT HILLCREST*** 4-7cm has been observed around Gatton and Adare around 12:30pm 5cm hail has been recorded around Seventeen Mile around 1pm 4cm hail has been reported just northeast of Toowoomba around 1pm 7cm hail was reported in Purga around 1:15pm 7.2cm hail was reported in Amberley around 2pm 8cm hail was reported in Forestdale and Springlake around 2:30pm Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 4:05 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210.
