Severe Weather Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in parts of Southeast Coast Forecast District.

Issued at 9:39 pm Saturday, 8 February 2020.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is developing over Moreton Bay and moving onto the coast near Manly. This rainfall is expected to extend south to the Gold Coast and hinterland overnight and on Sunday morning. Rainfall totals of 50-100mm are likely with isolated falls in excess of 150mm possible. Short duration totals of greater than 70mm in 1 hour are also possible. Currently the radar imagery indicates heavy rainfall is developing in Moreton Bay and moving onshore in southern Moreton Bay. Falls of around 50mm have occurred in the last hour in the Lytton, Wynnum, and Manly areas. A flood watch is current for coastal catchments south of Caboolture to the NSW border. Locations which may be affected include Manly, Beenleigh, North Stradbroke Island, Moreton Island, Gold Coast, Coolangatta, and Springbrook.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Sunday.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
